Meet… Ayesha Naureen

Welcome to our meet the team content series where we find out more about the people – we like to call them ‘UrbanChainers’ – driving UrbanChain forward.

Please tell us about your role at UrbanChain…

My role at UrbanChain involves R&D for the design and development of distributed energy markets, using Blockchain for P2P energy trading. I’m a co-founder of the company and Chief Information Officer.

Tell us about you, where you grew up, education, previous work experience…

I grew up in Pakistan. There, I did my Bachelors in Software Engineering and my Masters in Information Security from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad. I worked as a software developer for a couple of years after my Bachelors and as a lecturer for six years after my Masters. I came to the UK in 2014 and completed my Ph.D. in Computer Science from The University of Manchester, in 2019. I have been associated with UrbanChain since 2017 and joined them full-time in 2019.

What are your passions, interests and hobbies outside of work?

I enjoy hiking, exploring new places and watching TV.

What are your strengths as a thinker and what are you best at?

I am good at problem solving and learning and using new technologies.

What’s it like working at a disruptive technology company?

It’s challenging but very rewarding. Since we are setting up a new market, the requirements change quite frequently and you constantly need to adapt to these requirements. By the end, if things go your way, you feel very accomplished.

What does company culture mean to you?

Not feeling stressed about going to work, not feeling stressed about doing the actual work.

Describe UrbanChain’s company culture…

We have a friendly and relaxed environment at UrbanChain. We challenge each other but also support each other. We have regular in-house discussions to set up and update the future roadmap for the company.

What personal values do you bring to UrbanChain?

I am a very responsible person and I am pretty thorough with all the things I do. I am also an optimistic person.
