Power cut or electrical fault?

Here’s what to do

If you’ve lost power or spotted damage to power lines or underground cables, here’s how to get help fast.

Step 1: Call 105

This is the quickest way to reach your local electricity Distribution Network Operator (DNO).

It’s free from most landlines and mobiles in England, Scotland and Wales.

Or visit powercut105.com and enter your postcode to get their direct contact details.

Step 2: Check if it’s just you

Before calling, check whether it’s a power cut or an issue inside your property.

• Do your neighbours still have power?

• If they do, check your trip switches (usually on your fuse box or consumer unit).

• Trip switches shut off automatically if there’s a problem with one of your appliances.

If your neighbours have lost power too, it’s likely a wider power cut – and your DNO is best placed to sort it.
